Tools & methodologies

From Backcasting to Participatory Mapping, here we've gathered an array of tools, methodologies, and resources that we seamlessly integrate into our workshops and diverse projects. Explore our tools for food system inspiration!

Backcasting

This tool helps define and develop a future vision for a food system solution adapted to a specific context. We then work backwards from that vision to uncover the necessary steps to realize it.

Systems interactions mapping

Systems interactions mapping handles the core question of what are interactions or potential consequences to consider when navigating choices in food systems.

Participatory mapping

In participatory mapping, we identify spatial patterns and connections related to current trends, including the locations of on-going projects that are relevant to the topic.

Joint timeline development

Building on an appreciative inquiry approach, participants in this process co-create a joint timeline of drivers and patterns of change related to agriculture, the environment and the interaction between them.

Participatory monitoring, evaluating and learning

By carefully drafting and adapting learning questions, selecting indicators and methods for use on the ground, and more, a MEL plan helps to track progress & impact, and enables adaptive management and continuous co-learning.

IFSS Portal

The Innovative Food System Solutions (IFSS) portal bundles food systems resources & tools for entrepreneurs, producers, researchers, policy makers, businesses, students, youth (& youth allies), NGOs, investors, …
